So I meant to post about an hour ago but instead got caught up most of the night building a little medieval village for an elf-like people to the tune of acoustic guitar background music the likes of which you might hear played over the static station identifier screen of a West Virginia public television station.
I planted three apple trees and didn't have to kill a thing. It was wonderful.
Oh, man. So, you and I have talked about this at length; but it has crystallized for me recently.
Like any other kid, I spent a fair amount of time playing with guns, sticks that looked like guns, or areas of empty space that I would grasp like guns.
However, I spent *far, far more* time playing with Legos.
I've been hugely disappointed that current electronic gaming offers me endless opportunities to play with gun-shaped sticks, but so very few opportunities to play with Legos.
To be sure, it's dirt easy to crap out another shooter - let's face it, they're marginal revisions of the same underlying engines and concepts - like producing a coupe from an existing sedan, over and over - and that lets it become an easy, self-perpetuating marketing exercise.
But there's a whole variety of other dopamine levers you can push...people get off exploring places, building things, etc. and I'm going to continue to drop my money on places that let me do that...like the newb fag that I am
